Cobiax Technology is based on generating specific hollows inside a reinforced concrete slab. Massive concrete is replaced by synthetic void formers and remains only in statically relevant areas. Thus, it is possible to construct buildings with flat slabs while allowing for remarkable span width.
Cobiax technology uses recycled lightweight plastic void formers to replace the heavy concrete inside a slab where it is not required. The resulting savings of up to 35% in concrete and weight has a positive effect on the construction of the slab itself (e.g. less deflection, larger spans or thinner slab thickness) and hence on the whole building structure. Cobiax void former modules, which are internationally patented, consist of 2.50 m long linear support and positioning cages made from steel reinforcement fitted with void formers made of 100% recycled post-consumer plastic.
