The soundproofing of buildings must be planned and appropriate systems installed at the same time as heat insulating layers. As in some European countries the value of a building depends, not just on the degree of heat insulation, but also on the degree of acoustic insulation against outdoor noise, other apartments in the same building and the various environments of the same flat.

FONOSTOP DUO is the Index insulating system for floating floors. It is a system for the acoustic insulation of the noise produced by footsteps consisting of a 15 mm-thick sound resilient foil coupled with elastic polyester fibre non-woven fabric 6.5 mm thick. It is installed with the non-woven fabric side facing the floor to insulate with a dynamic stiffness of s’=21 MN/m3 measured as conform to UNI-EN 29052 standards, part 1a and ITC-CNR (ex ICITE) certified.

The insulation is supplied in rolls of 105 cm width with a 5 cm overlapping strip. The sheets are laid on the substrate which must be free of any unevenness or cracks, with an overlap of 5 cm. The floating reinforced screed is isolated from the walls with a self-adhesive polyethylene foam strip that has a tongue of polyethylene film at the bottom called FONOCELL. Subsequently a screed is cast on the insulation, reinforced with a welded metal mesh, on which the floor will be laid. Any excess insulating material will be trimmed off and the skirting tiles will be laid so they don’t touch the floor in order to avoid creating “acoustic bridges”. The partition walls will be insulated from the floor with 4 mm-thick strips of elastomeric sound-absorbent material called FONOSTRIP at least 2 cm wider than the thickness of the walls, laid between floor and wall.

FONOSTOPDuo is a thin yet highly effective acoustic insulation product against foot traffic noise, and represents the most efficient insulation method against foot traffic noise of the product range of INDEX.
