Innovative Ventilated Facade Systems & Exterior Cladding
Reviewed by Costas Harakis (Director) & Rania Koliandri (Architect & Facade Specialist, EKA Group)
Protect your building, ensure cost-efficiency, and update its look with engineered facade systems from EKA Group. We supply and install certified exterior cladding across Cyprus and Greece for residential, commercial, and high-rise projects.
With 80 years experience in building materials, EKA Group supplies and installs Ventilated Facade Systems built to handle strong Mediterranean sun, wind loads, and thermal movement.
Why EKA Ventilated Facades?
Our facades create ventilation through a natural chimney effect that provides:
- Heat Control: Warm air flows up and out before it reaches your building walls, cutting air conditioning costs in summer.
- Moisture Protection: Any rainwater that gets behind the panels dries out fast, keeping your insulation and main structure dry.
| Industry Myth | EKA Facts |
|---|---|
| "Ventilated facades are purely aesthetic cladding additions." | Ventilated Rainscreen Facades act as a building’s primary thermal shield. The continuous air cavity creates a natural "chimney effect" that evacuates solar heat gain before it enters the structure, drastically lowering HVAC cooling loads in hot climates. |
| "Large porcelain facade panels add dangerous dead weight to high-rise structures." | Modern architectural porcelain facade slabs are engineered at ultra-thin profiles (such as 6mm) while retaining extreme structural density. They deliver superior wind-load resistance with a significantly lower weight-to-m² ratio than natural stone or precast concrete. |
| "Directly glued exterior wall tiles last just as long as mechanical hanging systems." | Direct-adhesive applications suffer from thermal shock and structural expansion stresses over time. EKA specifies concealed mechanical anchoring systems (like rear-cut anchors and substructure rails) to safely isolate movement and ensure permanent structural integrity. |
| "Exterior facade materials fade, warp, and require constant surface sealing." | Our high-performance facade systems are completely non-porous, UV-stable, and resistant to thermal shock. They do not absorb moisture or airborne pollutants, maintaining their color and structural integrity with virtually zero maintenance. |
Ventilated Facade Projects
In this video we showcase three of our projects in Limassol; Amathus Residences, Lmona Business Center, and Neocleous Tower. In all three we handled the design, the supply, and the installation of the facade system, using our in-house expertise. Our goal lies in creating facades that are both functional and beautiful at the same time.
- Amathus Residences: 15-story tower built with Mirage ceramic tiles on a ventilated substructure, and custom balcony coverings with ACP panels.
- Neocleous Tower (Limassol): Commercial high-rise using Frontek ceramic panels with hidden aluminum structure.
- Lmona Business Center (Limassol): Fitted with Xpand aluminum shading screens to control sunlight.
- Soho Tower (Paphos): Complete technical execution and engineering oversight of the Agrob Buchtal KeraTwin K20 ceramic self-cleaning ventilated facade system (HYTECT® technology), featuring custom Fischer anchoring engineered specifically for Ytong masonry substrates alongside integrated ACP panel flashings.

FAQ – Ventilated Facade Systems
- What is a ventilated facade?
It is a dual-layer exterior wall setup. A gap of 3 to 5 cm is left between the building insulation and the outer panel. Air moves through this space naturally (chimney effect), carrying heat and moisture away from the building.
- Why choose a ventilated facade over standard paint and render?
Paint cracks and fades under UV light, requiring repainting every few years. Ventilated facades protect the core structure from weather, improve insulation, and last decades with basic cleaning.
- Are these systems fire-safe for high-rise buildings?
Yes. We supply non-combustible cladding materials – such as A1 fire-rated ceramic slabs, wpc (wood-plastic-composite), and aluminum – that meet local and European building safety standards.
- Does EKA Group manage the installation?
Yes. We handle the full process: material selection, engineering, construction drawings, delivery, and complete on-site installation across Cyprus and Greece, with full reporting throughout the installation process.
- How do ventilated facades lower utility bills?
By blocking direct sunlight from heating the main structure, less heat enters the building. This creates a natural thermal buffer that reduces cooling loads on HVAC systems in summer and reduces heating demand during winter.
